So who IS this person?!

Hello amazing people. My name is Vanessa and I am a Nationally Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) as well as a social worker. My life experiences led me to this work: to serve and support others experiencing menopause (or peri/postmenopause), or chronic pain, and to create a community that I myself have longed for. I survived both lyme disease and ovarian cancer at a young age, and when the dust settled, I found myself in an interesting situation: my body was suddenly on a fast track to menopause, and I wasn’t yet 30! I was also in a lot of pain, almost all the time, after several surgeries and huge physical and emotional changes.

Most of my peers at the time, while fantastic and loving, could not empathize with the experience, and I was dismissed by many a physician who either pronounced me “fine”, or recommended various mediations for my symptoms. Despite those frustrating interactions and living in a body that had stopped making sense, I had two powerful realizations: I am a badass survivor who will not give up, and I deserve excellent medical care and access to information (we all do!).

What followed was 13 years of research, networking, asking tough questions, and doing what I can to shine a light on the stages of menopause. Along the way the biggest surprise was a realization that TONS of people are also dealing with this stuff! So why weren’t we talking about it more? Why do we lower our voices when we discuss “the change” we’re experiencing?

My frustration with the current reality of healthcare, my personal health issues, as well as a desire to give back and support others, led me to get certified as a holistic health coach at the amazing Institute of Integrative Nutrition. I’ve shared knowledge with friends and community members for years, combing my learnings at IIN with my 15 years of experience building and expanding wellness programs in several non-profits and medical organizations, as a program director and social work supervisor/MSW. I also found an amazing job working as a chronic pain coach, and received thorough training in that area, with a focus on neuroscience, and the work of chronic pain legends such as Dr. Howard Schubiner and Alan Gordon.

I am honored to support folks who are working to better understand their bodies and advocate for their unique healthcare needs. And living this transition enables me to provide high level coaching to those who desire healing, understanding and empowerment. I aim to provide an inclusive and safe space, and remain mindful of my privilege as I walk through this world. During the planning of this website, a dear friend reminded me that ego can not exist in the service of love. This gentle advice guides me every day. I am here for you, it is my purpose and I am so grateful.

Before we wrap up here, I would like to dedicate this practice to my dear friend, Doug. He was a brilliant, wise, hilarious being, forever elevating and cheering on the people he loved. I strive to make him proud every day. We love you Doug. “L’attessa e’ lungha, il mio sogno di te non e’ finito”.
